Detailed Bio
Kim Harry Esbensen is an internationally recognized senior consultant, independent researcher, and professor with over 35 years of groundbreaking contributions to representative sampling, chemometrics, and Process Analytical Technology (PAT) across academia and industry. Trained as a geologist, geochemist, metallurgist, and data analyst, Dr. Esbensen is best known for pioneering the Theory of Sampling (TOS), which has become foundational for reliable process analysis, quality control, and decision making in sectors ranging from mining and pharmaceuticals to food, environment, and recycling.
He has founded and led academic research groups at institutions such as Telemark Institute of Technology (Norway), Aalborg University (Denmark), and GEUS (National Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland). Dr. Esbensen has supervised numerous MSc and PhD theses, published more than 200 peer-reviewed papers and influential textbooks, and received prestigious awards including the Pierre Gy Sampling Gold Medal. He established the World Conference on Sampling and Blending (WCSB) series and the TOS Forum to connect experts in representative sampling and process analytics worldwide.
Since 2015, he operates KHE Consulting, offering expert advice and solutions to companies and organizations on the application of TOS, PAT, and chemometrics, while staying active as a guest professor and educator internationally. Dr. Esbensen’s work continues to shape industry standards, regulatory guidelines, and best practices for sampling, data analysis, and process optimization globally.
