Dr. M. Nicolas Cruz Bournazou is the Head of the KIWI-biolab at the Technical University of Berlin (TU Berlin), Germany. With a doctorate in Model Based Process Engineering from TU Berlin, he leads a dynamic,international research group focused on the digitalization of bioprocess development. Dr. Cruz B. is an authority in applying machine learning, model-based approaches, and automation to accelerate high-throughput bioprocess optimization and the creation of autonomous biolabs.
His scientific career includes postdoctoral research at TU Berlin, senior research at ETH Zurich, and expert roles in industrial bioprocess modeling. He has driven key advances in adaptive algorithms and the integration of machine learning with experimental procedures, authoring 80+ publications. Dr.Cruz B. is recognized for pioneering digital tools that enable robotic and data-driven biomanufacturing, bridging academic research and industry innovation.
