Prof. Dr. Johannes Khinast is a distinguished Professor of Pharmaceutical Engineering at Graz University of Technology (TU Graz) in Austria. He serves as the Head of the Institute for Process and Particle Engineering and is the CEO and Scientific Director of the Research Center Pharmaceutical Engineering (RCPE) GmbH, which he founded in 2008. Prof. Khinast’s research focuses on pharmaceutical secondary manufacturing, including continuous manufacturing, Process Analytical Technology (PAT), Quality by Design (QbD), particle technology, process simulation, and various unit operations such as blending, extrusion, and coating.
He earned his doctorate in Chemical Engineering from TU Graz and completed postdoctoral research at the University of Houston, USA. From 1998 to 2007, he was a faculty member at Rutgers University in New Jersey, USA, where he became an Associate Professor. Since 2005, he has been at TU Graz leading research and innovation in pharmaceutical process engineering.
Prof. Khinast has a prolific scientific output with nearly 300 publications and holds multiple patents.His work advances novel methods for drug production, focusing on process simulation, particle technology, and pharmaceutical engineering to optimize and innovate drug manufacturing processes. He is recognized internationally for his leadership in pharmaceutical engineering and the integration of advanced process technologies in pharma manufacturing.
